My notebook computer runs very slow after it resumes from sleep mode.

This article applies to: BlackICE Defender.

SUMMARY

The program causes the system to perform very sluggishly after the computer comes back from sleep mode.

DETAILS

There is a bug in versions 1.8.6.11 or older that causes it and the system hosting it to become sluggish after the system resumes from sleep mode.

The problem is that when the system goes into sleep mode, it unloads all the drivers. The bug is that the product fails to reload its drivers after it comes back from the sleep mode.

This issue is being addressed in the next release version 1.9.0. In the mean time, here is the work around:

This work-around is for Win 95 or Win 98 only.

  1. When you know that you need to leave your computer alone for a period of time idle, then open a DOS window.
  2. In that DOS window, change directory to the installation directory; normally at...
    c:\Program Files\Network ICE\BlackICE
  3. Enter the command "blackd stop". This will stop the underlying intrusion detection engine and its drivers.
  4. When you are ready to restart the intrusion detection engine, in that same DOS window, enter the command "blackd start".

The above is just a work-around. We hope to fix this issue soon.
