I can no longer see my Network Neighborhood.

This article applies to: BlackICE Defender.

SUMMARY

This is working as designed.

DETAILS

Message from customer:

Whenever I run the product, I can't see my network. Interestingly, if I
uninstall and re-install the product, I can see my network. If I restart
my computer, I can't.
If I load the program after my computer boots up
(manually), I can see my network.

The product is doing its job: the problem is that if you can see your Network Neighborhood, then everyone else on the Internet can see you. The product is designed to stop that. (Remember, the Internet is TWO WAY communication).

If you just want things to work, you can go into the product and enable either Trusting or enable "Allow Internet file sharing".

This is bad, because you will probably accidentally share your entire hard drive with the rest of the Internet. A better alternative is to reconfigure your system to run File and Print Sharing on top of NetBEUI rather than TCP/IP: TCP/IP transfers your data across the entire Internet, NetBEUI only transfers data within your home.
