resource mismatch

advICE :Underground :Hacking :Methods :Technical : resource mismatch
One of the most common Denial of Service techniques. Sometimes it takes significantly more resources, in terms of CPU or network traffic, for one side of a connection. A hacker can exploit this in order to burn up these resources on the victim without having a similar impact on his/her own machine.
  • PPP Byte Stuffing-Takes advantage of PPP byte-stuffing in order to cause special problems for PPP users; effectively doubling the amount of traffic across their wire. Effectively, a ping filled with tilda's (~) will cause twice as much traffic as there are bytes in the packet.
